Ed de Giles' Blog

Belated update!

Yet again the Blogging has taken a back seat due to being so hectic here at home.

I think we have made a great start to the year with 4 winners already on the board. Quantum obliged and we are now giving him a nice long break and will let him enjoy the spring grass before bringing him back for the autumn.

Smidgen is beginning to fulfill the potential we have always thought he had. He bounced on his penultimate run but I was keen to run him under a penalty in the grade but nothing came to light so I think it was a race too quick after his extended break last year. He firmly put that behind him yesterday. I did think at the start of the year we would possibly be trying him over 7F but now I think if we change his trip it might well be 5F. He will probably run in 3 weeks time.

Akavit obliged under a good ride last time. He is no world beater but I think can still improve over further. He hopefully runs on 8th April.

Quinta is a ……! He works like a 75-80 horse but just doesn't put it in. He may run back over 6f next week but I might step him back up to a mile, either way he has to be allowed to roll at his leisure as he just refuses to respond to pressure.

Zugzwang and Shingle both ran nice comeback runs and will possibly run next Wednesday.

Go Nani Go had everything go against him last year. He ran a nice enough come back race at Wolves drawn badly. He ran a cracker yesterday from another bad draw. He needs either Lingfield or fast ground. On yesterdays run you would have to say he is good as ever and should be able to pick up a race in the next few weeks.

Muhdiq ran two crackers but was disappointing last time over 6F. He is a smashing horse and I am sure we will get a win or two out of him at some point.

Goddess Epona is a smashing horse who has run two lovely races so far for some new owners to the yard. She is still a bit green but is improving all the time. She is a big filly with a light frame and I can only see her improving with time as she strengthens. She will probably run next Wednesday at Kempton.

All the 2yo's are progressing nicely and I imagine our first one will be out end of April beginning of May.

The pool and barn construction is going well but obviously taking a little longer than we had hoped but looking at it I would say another 3 weeks should do it. Kingsgate Choice is coming along nicely but I am itching to get him swimming so hopefully it wont be much longer than 3 weeks.
